We spent the last month dog-sitting for the Bockweg parents as they globetrotted (their trip diary will be online soon, as I understand) and found ourselves completely bereft and depressed when they took Rosebud home after the Fourth of July weekend. We decided to head out to the SPCA right away, but discovered that they weren't really open that day. Sigh. So we looked at the dogs through the bars of their cages and returned home. We went back during our lunch breaks the next day and discovered that most of the dogs we'd thought we were interested in were not for us, but we met this adorable little black lab mix who just loved everyone! We made arrangements to pick her up Friday afternoon to foster her until her spay appointment, when we'd be allowed to adopt her. But lo and behold, on Friday we arrived to find out they'd managed to fit in her spaying on Wednesday and we could adopt her immediately! Rapture!
So she's been with us for the weekend at this point and we couldn't be more pleased. She's well mannered, reasonably quiet, affectionate, and speeds around our newly-fenced yard like a demon. Our one problem was that we couldn't think of a name for her. They called her Storm at the shelter, but I can't think of a name that suits her less. We tossed about a few, but nothing seemed right. We spent all of Saturday calling her Violet, but ended up deciding that it just didn't work.
Tsutomu, Takako, and their daughter, Hinako came over today to help us with the home improvement efforts, for which we are very grateful. They also suggested a great name for her, Kirari. It means "star" or "twinkle" or "glitter". So here are some pictures of the new light of our lives.
