Our Trip to London

Shakespeare's Globe Theater

The last major sightseeing excursion we made was to the Globe Theater. It was AMAZING! The theater has been rebuilt as accurately as possible, even to the point that no nails or screws were used in the construction! The whole place was built using the technology of Elizabethan times. There are a few concessions to the modern day, including more and larger exits for safety, but it's still a very impressive reproduction. Plays are performed here during the temperate months. We didn't get to see one, but the show was "A Midsummer Night's Dream" during our visit, so I'm not too upset.
This is what the stage looks like from the lowest seats. It's not a bad view.
Here's a shot of the seating options. The middle tier was the most expensive seating, followed by the lower tier, then the upper, then the standing room in front of the stage.
Here's Judson standing by the stage.
And me in the seats.
Here's a picture of the roof. The theater is open air, and the roof is made of thatch. (They had to get a special permit for that - thatch roofing has been illegal in London since the great fire! This thatch has been treated with fire retardant chemicals and the roof has a sprinkler system built into it.)
